Sam Goldberger MD, MBA

Co-Founder & Managing Partner

Sam Goldberger MD, MBA is Co-Founder and Managing Partner of Ambit Health Ventures.

Sam practiced as an ophthalmologist and ophthalmic facial plastic and reconstructive surgeon for 24 years in Southern California. In addition to managing a successful surgical practice, Sam is the author of numerous scientific papers and served as an Assistant Clinical Professor of Ophthalmology at the University of Southern California Keck School of Medicine and at Children’s Hospital Los Angeles.

After earning his MBA as a Sloan Fellow at MIT in 2016, Sam was recruited by a private equity firm to be CEO of their ophthalmology division. Sam led a very large and successful ophthalmology practice roll up. In 2018, he founded and led his own healthcare and life-science investing firm, Rangol Partners.

Sam is board certified by the American Academy of Ophthalmology and a member of the American Society of Ophthalmic Plastic and Reconstructive Surgery. He earned a B.S. in Biology from MIT, a Medical Degree from Albert Einstein College of Medicine, and an MBA from MIT Sloan.

Naomi Fried, PhD

Co-Founder & Managing Partner

Naomi Fried, PhD, is Co-Founder and Managing Partner of Ambit Health Ventures. Naomi is the founder of the pharma-focused digital health accelerator PharmStars. Previously, Naomi was the founder and CEO of Health Innovation Strategies, a boutique advisory firm that works with large healthcare organizations on their innovation programs and digital health strategy. Prior to that, Naomi was the first VP of Innovation and External Partnerships at Biogen, where she developed the firm’s “innovation beyond the molecule strategy.”


Naomi has also served as the first Chief Innovation Officer at Boston Children's Hospital, where she built and led the Innovation Acceleration Program to promote digital health and clinical innovation, and as the first VP of Innovation and Advanced Technology at Kaiser Permanente, where she led efforts to identify and assess new and emerging health care technology. Naomi has served on the Board of Directors of the American Telemedicine Association and was a member of the Governor of Massachusetts Innovation Council. She received her Ph.D. in Materials Science from MIT and her B.S. in Chemistry from the University of California, Berkeley.

Mason Reiner

Partner

Mason is a serial entrepreneur and investor with broad experience launching, managing and investing in growth-stage companies across multiple industries, including renewable energy, information technology, real estate, and healthcare.


Mason was the founding CEO of R-Health, a pioneer in tech-enabled Advanced Primary Care. He led R-Health from concept stage through successful exit.


Mason’s key achievements as CEO of R-Health included:

  • 50% Revenue CAGR over five years prior to exit.
  • Building outstanding, highly engaged teams across all functional areas, including clinical, operations, technology, marketing, patient engagement, finance, HR, and business development.
  • Securing both strategic equity investments as well as low-cost impact debt to fund rapid growth.
  • Negotiating the first true risk-based contract for Direct Primary Care.
  • Leading one of the highest performing Medicare Accountable Care Organizations (ACOs) in the country.
  • Developing a proprietary clinical intelligence platform that integrated clinical, claims & virtual patient engagement data to deliver actionable insights to physicians at the point of care.

Following R-Health’s acquisition by Everside Health, Mason served on the executive team of Everside as Senior VP, Innovation and Value Based Care. In this role, he was responsible for population health, total cost of care management, and risk contracting across Everside’s 350+ health centers in 33 states.


Mason is a Summa Cum Laude graduate of the Wharton School of the University of Pennsylvania, where he was a consultant and researcher at Wharton’s Snider Entrepreneurial Center.
